Comet Drive-In Theatre
| The Comet Drive-In Theatre had a gala grand opening on
Friday, July 1, 1949.
R. E. Brand of Columbus, Georgia designed the theatre and owners Messrs. E. D. Martin and Ray Martin, Jr. spared no expense providing new sound equipment and machines. It was known as the Comet Drive-In and contrary to popular belief, it had its name before a meteorite hit a house and woman less than a block away. Drive-in theatres were popular from the 1940's through the 1960's. But something happened in the 1970's and early 80's and drive-ins started to disappear. |
