Dr. Adair K. Whetstone was born October 1, 1878 in Titus, Alabama. He was inspired by his uncle, Dr. W. F. Beckett, to become a doctor. In 1904, he married Carrie Wood. He entered Birmingham Medical College in 1910 and became a doctor in 1914. 

Dr. Whetstone was a man of many talents including blacksmithing, carpentry, cotton ginning, saw milling, wood planing, etc. He built wagons, bridges, coffins, pulled teeth, cut hair, and served as a part time teacher in
arithmetic.

During his forty odd years as a country doctor, he  delivered about 4,600 babies in Bibb, Clay, Coosa, Elmore and Talladega Counties. Later, he delivered children for the second generation.

In 1928, Dr. Whetstone moved his wife, mother, and their ten children to Sylacauga. For many years, he was an associate member of the F. Hood Craddock Memorial
Clinic.

He was outstanding in his civic and professional work. In 1949, he was recognized as one of two men selected
by the Sylacauga Chamber of Commerce to receive a plaque as "Man of the Year." He was honored again in 1953.

Dr. Whetstone served God faithfully all of his life. He was an active Steward in the Methodist Church for over 51 years.
