Recycling is operated by the City Street Department and is open from 7:30 a.m. until 3:25 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Recycle Center is located at 1120 Wynette Rd. Sylacauga, AL 35150.

Department Functions/Responsibilities

The Recycling Department has the responsibility of overseeing all recycling programs in the City of Sylacauga; drop-off sites, curbside collection program, School Recycling program, Business Recycling program, Public education, etc.

Collection Points

Curbside for all residents within the city of Sylacauga.

Materials Collected

Paper Products
We accept all DRY paper products. Examples: notebooks, phone books, catalogs, newspaper, junk mail, brown paper bags, cereal boxes, cardboard, typing paper, office, office waste paper, etc.
NOT ACCEPTABLE: Wet paper!

Plastics
We accept all narrow neck bottles that have a 1 or 2 on the bottom. Example: milk jugs, soft drink bottles, laundry and shampoo products. Rinse and remove all lids and pumps. Containers may be crushed to conserve space, but is not mandatory.
NOT ACCEPTABLE: Motor oil containers, pesticide and herbicide containers, plastic bags, wide mouth containers such as yogurt or margarine tubs.

Cans
Aluminum and Steel cans acceptable. All cans must be empty. All cans containing food products must be rinsed. All aerosol cans must be empty. Containers may be crushed to conserve space.
NOT ACCEPTABLE: Cans that have contained paint, herbicides or pesticides.

Scrap
Metal All scrap metals can be placed at curbside within the city limits or delivered to the recycle center.
NOTE: We do not purchase scrap metal!

Used Motor Oil
Recycle engine oil from vehicles and lawnmowers. Put used oil in clean, CLEAR PLASTIC containers, such as one-gallon milk jugs, fasten lid securely and deliver to the recycle center. We DO NOT pick up used oil at curbside. NOT ACCEPTABLE: Do not recycle oil in glass containers, plastic antifreeze bottles, motor oil bottles, or and other bottle that is not CLEAR. Do not recycle any used oil that has been mixed with any other liquids. Do not recycle antifreeze or brake fluid.
