The Sylacauga Police Department's shoulder patch has evolved over the years.  The first known patch was the "Upside-down Triangle".  The patch then evolved into the familiar standard police patch.  In the mid nineties, the current patch was created.  Below are pictures and history of the patches that have been worn by the men and women of the Sylacauga Police Department.

Not exactly sure when the "Upside-down Triangle" was introduced.  Photos from as early as the 1950s show officers wearing the patch.  It was worn until the department went to the standard police patch.

The standard police patch was worn by Sylacauga Police Officers until the mid nineties.

Not available for trade.

Our current patch not only identifies the police department, but also identifies the state and city it serves.  The patch is in the shape of the State of Alabama.  In the middle is a seal.  At the top of the seal is "1834", which represents when the City of Sylacauga was founded.  At the bottom are the words, "The Marble City", which is what Sylacauga is known for.  In the middle of the seal is a star and a marble structure with the United States Flag on one side and the Alabama State Flag on the other.  This patch is currently worn on the uniforms of the men and women of the Sylacauga Police Department.
