Sylacauga Police Department Explorer Post 140

The Sylacauga Police Department gives young boys and girls and young adults the opportunity to learn about law enforcement through the Explorer Program.  The program is for persons at least 14 years of age, but not yet 21 years of age.  Members are able to participate in some activities with the police department through the advisors that run the program.  After members become familiar with department rules and receive some training, they are allowed to ride on patrol with officers.  The members are required to attend two meetings a month.  The meetings are scheduled by the advisors.  Membership is seven dollars per year and the member is required to purchase some equipment to go with the uniform.  The program currently has eight members.
