The Sylacauga Police Department Reserve Officers assist with day to day operations and play a vital role in the department.  The program itself is strictly volunteer without monetary compensation.  Once the application process is complete, the reserve officer may conduct ride-alongs with other officers.  They may also be used for special events such as parades, Talladega Superspeedway security, and football games.  While most of the events are volunteer, some events are paid.  A rank structure does exist in the reserve program.  After a sufficient amount of time is dedicated to the program, reserves have an opportunity to attend the reserve academy, which upon completion they will become a certified officer.  Reserve Officers must have a minimum ride time of 30 hours per quarter.
