Sylacauga
Police Department Awards Banquet Each year, the Sylacauga Police Department holds a banquet to provide recognition to meritorious, distinguished and other acts of service by department personnel. This year, special guests attending the banquet included Mayor Sam Wright and his wife Connie, Council President Doug Murphree and his wife Barbara, Council President Pro Tem Harold Ward, Council member Don Flippo and his wife Bonita and Council member Henry Looney and his wife Ella. Other special guests attending the banquet were department retirees and their families including retired Captain O'Neal Denny and Lt. Alvin Kidd.
This award is not based upon one particular incident or set of circumstances
that an employee may become involved with, but their year long and
continuous service to the department. A bronze policeman's bust was
presented to Officer Johnson in recognition of professionalism,
exemplary performance, integrity, pride, and dedication. Attendance and Firearms Awards Perfect Attendance
Award
Lt. Fremon Edwards was recognized for receiving the award for five consecutive years.
Capt. Andy Davis was awarded the Top Gun award for the second consecutive year. This award is given for exceptional firearms proficiency in both qualification and combat firearms courses. Capt. Davis is the first two-time winner of the award.
Police Firearms Expert
Meritorious Service Award and Certificate of Commendation The Meritorious Service Award is presented to those individuals who place themselves at risk of personal injury or while under extremely stressful circumstances displays exceptional professionalism. A Certificate of Commendation is presented to those individuals whose actions reflect upon the highest traditions of law enforcement and display personal skills of devotion to duty.

awards for their efforts in capturing a suspect wanted for attempted murder.

The following officers received awards for their investigation that led to
the arrest of an individual passing counterfeit money.
The following officers received awards for their response and actions
involving an aggravated assault incident in which a juvenile had been shot.

The following officers were given awards for their capture of two suspects
within minutes of a burglary at a local business.
The following officers were given awards for their exceptional efforts in
resolving an incident with an armed mentally disturbed person who had
barricaded himself in his residence.
The following officers were given awards for their quick response which led
to the capture of a suspect within minutes of a business burglary.
The following officers received awards for their capture of a residential
burglar.
The following officers received awards for their efforts which led to the
capture of a suspect involved in a nationwide credit card fraud.
The following officers received awards for their efforts in arresting two
suspects involved in a residential burglary.
Certificate of Commendation
Department Service Award The Department Service Award is presented to employees whose exceptional contributions benefit and bring credit to the officer, the department or the community. The following officer was presented with a commendation bar and certificate for his efforts in developing and maintaining the department's Web site.
The following reserve officers were presented the award for their dedication and service to the department through the Reserve Officer Unit.
Distinguished Service Award The Distinguished Service Award recognizes an employee's continuous years of service. The following officers were presented with a five-year commendation bar and certificate.
The following officers were presented with a ten-year commendation bar and certificate.
Chief Louis Zook was presented with a 20-year commendation bar, certificate and the Distinguished Service Medal.
