CITY EMPLOYMENT

The City of Sylacauga has approximately one hundred and twenty employees filling positions in the police department, fire department, street department, city maintenance shop, recycle center, senior citizens service, court office, planning and code enforcement, city clerk’s office and mayor’s office. The Civil Service Act governs these positions, and most of these positions require Civil Service testing to create an eligible roster for open positions or new positions that need to be filled.

The Civil Service Board of Sylacauga, made up of three members appointed by the Governor of Alabama, is the Civil Service Act enforcer.

Inspector-Utilities and Related Codes

 

The City of Sylacauga will accept applications to establish a roster for Inspector – Utilities and Related Codes until 4:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 31, 2012.  Reviews status of projects, performs electrical, gas, plumbing, HVAC inspections to ensure compliance with codes. Attends pre-construction meetings. Maintains files regarding ordinances, codes, inspection records.  Acts as liaison between the City and contractors. Maintains working relationship with contractors, department heads, vendors, general public. Associates degree in construction technology, or equivalent training and experience providing knowledge in building construction and building systems.  Five (5) years experience in performing skilled work in residential and commercial construction.  Must possess or be able to earn and maintain International Code Council Certification (ICC) in residential Inspection, Commercial Inspection and Plans Examination categories.
