CITY EMPLOYMENT

The City of Sylacauga has approximately one hundred and twenty
employees filling positions in the police department, fire department,
street department, city maintenance shop, recycle center, senior citizens
service, court office, planning and code enforcement, city clerk’s office
and mayor’s office. The Civil Service Act governs these positions, and most
of these positions require Civil Service testing to create an eligible
roster for open positions or new positions that need to be filled.
The Civil Service Board of Sylacauga, made up of three members
appointed by the Governor of Alabama, is the Civil Service Act enforcer.

The City of Sylacauga will accept applications for
CONSTRUCTION WORKER I in the Street Department until 4:00 PM JUNE 23,
2009. This is manual work involving the cleaning and maintenance of
City streets and properties, trash collection, street maintenance and
repair, and hauling. This job may include driving light trucks, operating
weed eaters, mowers and other hand and power tools. A valid Alabama driver
license with a record suitable for insurability is required. Applications
may be obtained from the City Clerk’s Office located at 301 North Broadway,
between the hours of 8:00AM and 4:00PM, Monday through Friday. The
application fee is $1.50. The City of Sylacauga is an Equal Opportunity
